Senior Power Electronics Engineer

General Requirements

Altergy Systems designs and manufactures proprietary proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell systems, collectively known as Altergy Freedom Power products. These compact, rugged, high efficiency systems produce power at the point of use -- making reliable, low cost, distributed power generation a reality.

Telecommunications, data centers, and other mission-critical premium power applications benefit greatly from the uninterrupted, on-demand power, peak shaving and load shedding made possible by Altergy's innovative fuel cell systems.

Altergy is presently looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer.  This position will play a key role in the design and characterization of Altergy’s fuel cell systems.  The individual will be responsible for the circuit design, power packaging design, and the layout of power conversion systems/assemblies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • System design and simulation of power electronic circuits from 1 to 20 kW using IGBT and MOSFET power devices;
  • Electrical/Mechanical/Thermal design and layout design of power conversion assemblies;
  • Specification development for product design and test;
  • Support of production and test activities;
  • Printed circuit board (PCB) design;

Qualifications

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer;
  • B.S.E.E. or M.S.E.E. - Power Electronics emphasis;
  • 10 years experience in power electronics design, commercial applications experience a plus;
  • Design knowledge of and experience with EMI reduction a plus;
  • Recent experience with switched mode power supply design at > 1kW;
  • Analog and digital design;
  • Familiarity with embedded microcontroller circuit design;
  • Product development and test experience;
  • Familiarity with UL, CE, and IEC specifications a plus;
  • Current knowledge of MS Office, SPICE, schematic capture, PCB layout, and C language programming a plus;
  • Good, recent familiarity with available electronic components: passive, magnetics, power semiconductors, IC’s, thermal management;
  • Must be a practical hands-on individual capable of working in a fast-paced environment with a small team.
