Altergy Celebrates National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day

Today’s Fuel Cell Market Creates Jobs While Providing Clean Energy

altergy-national-fuel-cell-day(Folsom, CA) – October 8, 2016 – Today, Altergy joins the nation in celebrating National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day by marking the growth of the industry and raising awareness of the benefits fuel cells and hydrogen technologies provide in generating reliable and resilient power, improving the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and increasing America’s energy security.

Recognized by the U.S. Senate for the second year with the passage of Senate Resolution 573, National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day is being observed on October 8 (10.08), a reference to the atomic weight of hydrogen – 1.008.

Clean, efficient, and quiet, fuel cells utilize hydrogen and oxygen to generate electricity in a chemical reaction without combustion.

“Altergy is proud to join with other cutting-edge companies celebrating National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day,” said Andrea Laughlin, Altergy’s Director of Marketing.  “Today’s hydrogen and fuel cell industry is making its mark across America and the world – on highways, factories, businesses, universities, and public institutions by providing sustainable, affordable, safe, and resilient power.”

Altergy Freedom Power™ fuel cells deliver reliable, cost effective backup power for mission critical applications providing customers constant connectivity for modern, stronger networks. As the largest provider of fuel cells for backup power in the telecommunications industry, Altergy fuel cells have logged more than 32 million hours of runtime, provided uninterrupted power during hurricanes, earthquakes, and severe storms where legacy systems have failed, and have replaced batteries and generators in more than 8.3 million watts of applications.

Morry Markowitz, President of the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) explained,   “There is an impressive and growing list of customers installing fuel cells for stationary applications, the well-established material handling (forklift) market for fuel cells is beginning to take hold internationally, and fuel cell vehicles from major automotive manufacturers are available for lease or purchase in California, with fueling stations in operation or under construction to support them, and anticipated expansion in the near-future to the Northeast.”

Markowitz concluded, “As we again celebrate National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, the hydrogen and fuel cell future we hoped for is emerging as a dynamic, growing market.  This progress is a tribute to the companies, organizations, and individuals who pioneered these technologies and are making hydrogen and fuel cells an important part of the nation’s energy mix.”
